The Artist Behind the Icing

You're not here to dabble. You're here to create.

Your work deserves to be as beautiful as the vision in your head.

Whether you’re just getting started or you’ve been baking for years, you want to do work you’re proud of, work that feels refined, expressive, and distinctly you. I’m Alexandria Carmona, and I built Finespun to help you get there.

let me guess

You fell in love with cake design because something about it just clicked.

The textures. The colors. The chance to bring beauty into the world, one petal or piping stroke at a time.
But somewhere between the Instagram scrolls and the rushed tutorials, you started feeling stuck. Your cakes weren’t matching the vision in your head. Your flowers felt a little off. You had taste, but not quite the technique.
And you didn’t want to copy. You wanted to create.
That's where I come in

I'm here to teach you how to think like an artist.

I’m not here to hand you templates and walk away. I’m here to help you slow down, refine your eye, and build every element of your work, from sugar flowers to full designs, with purpose, skill, and ease.
  • ✦Learn timeless techniques that never go out of style
  • ✦Master sugar flowers that look impossibly real
  • ✦Understand structure, form, and visual balance
  • ✦Develop your own signature approach to cake artistry
This isn’t just “how to decorate.” This is how to create like a professional, with patience, elegance, and a sense of design you can trust.
A Few of My Favorite Cakes

The kind of work I love creating, and love teaching even more.

From elegant sugar flowers to intricate tiered designs, each piece is a blend of technique, storytelling, and love.
What I Teach, and Why

I teach with precision. I also teach with heart.

My style is structured, thoughtful, and intentional, because I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed by tutorials that skip steps or assume too much.
I trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Canada and was fortunate to learn directly from the legendary Ron Ben-Israel in New York City. After over a decade designing bespoke wedding cakes, and seeing my work featured in publications like Weddingbells, Today’s Bride, Junebug Weddings, and Style Me Pretty, I realized my true passion was teaching.
Inside the Finespun Academy and Atelier, I walk alongside you with detailed instruction, thoughtful feedback, and a design philosophy that goes beyond decoration. Whether you’re making your first sugar flower or finally developing your unique artistic voice, I’m here to help you get there.
a quick truth

You're a Creator, even if you don't feel like one yet.

I call my students Creators, because that’s what you are. You’re not “just” a home baker. You’re someone who brings beauty into the world with buttercream, fondant, and flowers, and that deserves recognition.
Finespun began with one goal: to help cake artists of all levels feel empowered in the kitchen and proud of what they create. Whether you’re making your first buttercream swirl or mastering realism in sugar flowers, this is a space where your growth matters and your artistry is taken seriously.
A Little More About Me

What lights me up beyond sugar flowers.

🔍
I will never say no to a true crime deep-dive or a baking competition show playing in the background.
☕
I run on triple espressos and playlists that feel like a Paris café.
✈️
I once traveled across Europe just to try the pastries in every city. Worth it.
💐
My favorite flower to make in sugar? Ranunculus, so delicate, so dramatic.
🧁
I still cry a little (in a good way) when students send me pictures of their first finished cake.
📍
You’ll find me at the Finespun studio on Bathurst Street in Toronto, most days, covered in petal dust.
