What's In The Course

Four core skills, taught in plain English.

Every petal-shaping technique, every dusting tip, every troubleshooting moment. Recorded once, kept by you forever.

01

Building the centre

Shaping the gum-paste centre and adding the stamen detail that brings the anemone to life.

02

Wired petals

Cutting, thinning, and wiring petals so they hold their shape and bend the way you want them to.
03

Dusting with depth

Soft, subtle dusting on white petals, the technique that separates flat sugar flowers from real ones.
04

Taping the flower together

Bringing your petals and centre into one finished flower, ready for a cake or to live on its own.
Why The Anemone

The flower I recommend everyone start here.

Most people start with a rose because it feels iconic. Then they get frustrated, because a rose is hard. Layered petals, complicated shaping, a forgiving flower it is not.

The Japanese Anemone is the flower I wish I’d been told to start with. It teaches every fundamental, all in one flower. Centres, stamens, wired petals, dusting on white, taping. By the time you finish this one course, you have the foundations for every flower in my library.

“If you can make this, you can make every other flower I teach. It’s that complete a starter.”
It’s also one of the most modern, photographable sugar flowers there is. Brides ask for them. Editorials feature them. And they sit beautifully on almost any wedding-cake palette, from soft cream to dramatic moody.

Your Teacher

Hi, I'm Alexandria.

I founded Finespun Cakes in Toronto in 2015 and have spent the last decade designing wedding cakes and teaching sugar flowers to over 1,000 students worldwide.
I trained at Le Cordon Bleu, studied under Ron Ben-Israel in New York, won an American Cake Award, and was named one of Wedluxe’s Top 10 Wedding Cake Designers in Canada. But what I love most is this part, the part where someone makes their very first sugar flower.
That’s why this course is free. Because the first one matters.
when you're ready for more

Loved this? There's a whole library waiting.

The Finespun Academy is where you go after this. Her full course library, over 100 studio recipes, live time with Alexandria every month, and the studio tools she uses on every cake.

No pressure. Make the anemone first. The Academy will still be here.
