What You'll Learn

The five skills that mark the transition to cake artist.

Not a paint-by-numbers rose. The techniques that turn into colour theory, dusting depth, and the artistic confidence you carry into every other flower.

01

The spiral centre

The signature spiral centre that’s defined rose-making for centuries. Different cutters, the par-drying trick, and the technique to nail it the first time.
02

Colour theory, properly

Mauve to taupe gradient. Antique warm undertones. The kind of colour work that turns a flat sugar flower into one you’d swear was picked this morning.
03

Petal placement

No more weirdly symmetrical, artificial-looking flowers. The placement decisions that give the rose its natural movement and its life.
04

No-veiner technique

I made roses for years without a veiner. So can you. Options taught with and without, so you can start with what you’ve got.
05

Dynamic dusting

Layered dusting to create gradients, freshness, decay, and antique hues, all without ending up splotchy. The dusting technique that comes back in every flower after.
Why The Classic Rose

The flower that proves you've crossed the line.

Every sugar flower artist has a moment. The moment your work stops looking like an attempt at a flower, and starts looking like a flower. Most students tell me that moment happens during the Classic Rose course. The spiral centre clicks. The dusting starts behaving. And suddenly you’re not following along, you’re making it.
This is the rose that teaches the techniques every other flower needs. Colour theory you’ll use forever. Dusting you’ll use forever. A petal-placement instinct that becomes second nature. It’s why I recommend it to students who want to build a sugar flower practice, not just a single flower.
“She has a way of making complicated techniques feel approachable.” · Rachel M · Dreamcakes, Austin
And yes, you use the same simple teardrop cutters you’ll use for almost every other flower in the library. I am not in the business of making you buy a new tool every week.

Your Teacher

Hi, I'm Alexandria.

I founded Finespun Cakes in Toronto in 2015 and have spent the last decade designing wedding cakes and teaching sugar flowers to over 1,000 students worldwide.
I trained at Le Cordon Bleu, studied under Ron Ben-Israel in New York, won an American Cake Award, and was named one of Wedluxe’s Top 10 Wedding Cake Designers in Canada.
My courses are taught the way I wish someone had taught me, with every step shown, no gatekeeping, and no rushing through the parts that actually matter.

Why buy one course when you could have all of them?

The Classic Rose is included in the Finespun Academy at $29/month, along with every other course, over 100 studio recipes, all seven studio tools, and live time with Alexandria every month.
After five months in the Academy, you’ve already gotten more than the price of this single course. Most members stay much longer.
