What You'll Learn

The skills that turn a sugar flower into a painting.

Wired petals, layered colour, hand-painted speckles. The Hellebore is the course where artistry takes over from technique.
01

Wiring individual petals

The technique that means your petals don’t snap, droop, or pull through the gum paste. Wiring 101 included, so every flower after this benefits.
02

Three centre options

Three different ways to make a hellebore centre, so you can adjust the style of your flower to match the cake, the mood, or your artistic vision.
03

Hand-painted speckles

The signature painted detail that gives the hellebore its name. With and without a paintbrush, real technique, real brushwork.
04

Multi-colour dusting

Mix and layer multiple dusts on a single petal without it getting muddy. The technique most courses skip and most cake artists fear.
05

Colour theory, deeper

Hues, tints, tones, and shades. No more muddy, dull colours, no more cake arrangements that feel disjointed. Cohesive and elegant, every time.
Why The Hellebore

The flower where you stop following along and start creating.

The Hellebore is different from the other flagship flowers. The Peony teaches abundance. The roses teach technique. The Hellebore teaches artistry. The moment you hand-paint your first speckle, the work stops being about following along and starts being about creating something only you would have made.
Wired petals. Layered colour. Three different centre options so the flower bends to your vision, not the other way round. This is the course that turns your work into a portfolio. Not a single flower, but a piece of art.
“I very much enjoyed the class! It was so fun and I learned a lot.” · Tricia Clarke · Academy student
It’s also the gateway flower if you’ve been wanting to learn painting on sugar flowers but didn’t know where to start. By the end of this course you’ll have wiring, layered dusting, and painting all in one place, the three techniques that unlock every other advanced flower.

Your Teacher

Hi, I'm Alexandria.

I founded Finespun Cakes in Toronto in 2015 and have spent the last decade designing wedding cakes and teaching sugar flowers to over 1,000 students worldwide.
I trained at Le Cordon Bleu, studied under Ron Ben-Israel in New York, won an American Cake Award, and was named one of Wedluxe’s Top 10 Wedding Cake Designers in Canada.
My courses are taught the way I wish someone had taught me, with every step shown, no gatekeeping, and no rushing through the parts that actually matter.
