The Sugar Moth Orchid
What You'll Learn

Five core skills, including techniques most courses skip.

An anatomically accurate sugar orchid, built from scratch. Every part of the flower has a name, a function, and a technique. Recorded once, yours forever.
01

Wire prep, properly

How to prep wires before you start, the unglamorous step that’s the difference between a flower that holds and one that droops.
02

Column & labellum

The two parts at the heart of every orchid. Most courses gloss over this. We go slow, and your finished flower will show it.
03

Sepals & petals, in order

The orchid has three sepals AND three petals, arranged in a specific botanical order. Top, middle, bottom, taught one at a time.
04

Hand-painting on petals

The painted spots and veins that give the moth orchid its name. Real technique, real brushwork, taught from the brush up.
05

Taping the whole flower

Six wired parts becoming one finished orchid. Where the tape goes, what tension to use, how to hide the joins.

Why The Moth Orchid

The flower the wedding editorials keep asking for.

Open any modern wedding cake editorial and the orchid is there. Cascading. Singular. Botanically dramatic. It’s the flower planners request when they want a cake to make the magazine cover, and the flower most cake artists quietly skip because it’s intimidating to make.
The moth orchid earns its difficulty. It has anatomy. A column, a labellum, three sepals, three petals, all arranged in a specific botanical order. Most courses teach you to fake an orchid. This one teaches you to make one.
“When a cake artist tells me they’ve started getting editorial features, it almost always started with an orchid.”
It’s also one of the most versatile flowers in your portfolio once you can make it. Tropical wedding, minimalist white wedding, moody monochrome wedding, the orchid fits everywhere. One technique, ten years of bookings.

What Students Say
“I found Alexandria’s spray rose tutorial on YouTube on a whim. I stopped by the craft store, gathered some bare minimum tools, and somehow turned a lump of store-bought gumpaste into a lifelike flower. I couldn’t believe what I had made, and I was instantly hooked.”

Your Teacher

Hi, I'm Alexandria.

I founded Finespun Cakes in Toronto in 2015 and have spent the last decade designing wedding cakes and teaching sugar flowers to over 1,000 students worldwide.
I trained at Le Cordon Bleu, studied under Ron Ben-Israel in New York, won an American Cake Award, and was named one of Wedluxe’s Top 10 Wedding Cake Designers in Canada.
My courses are taught the way I wish someone had taught me, with every step shown, no gatekeeping, and no rushing through the parts that actually matter.
a smarter way

Why buy one course when you could have all of them?

The Sugar Moth Orchid is included in the Finespun Academy at $29/month, along with every other course, over 100 studio recipes, all seven studio tools, and live time with Alexandria every month.
After five months in the Academy, you’ve already gotten more than the price of this single course. Most members stay much longer.
