Sweet Peas

What You'll Learn

Five skills, one flower that brings life.

Sweet peas teach you to build motion into a flower. Every other course in the catalog teaches stillness, sweet peas teach flow. The skills here change how you think about every cascade arrangement you’ll ever build.
01

The three bloom stages

A real sweet pea stem has buds, half-open blossoms, and full blooms all at once. Master all three and the technique for taping them along a single stem so the flower reads as actively growing.
02

The signature twisted petal

Sweet peas have one specific petal shape, the “standard” that arcs back over the rest. Get that one petal right and the flower is unmistakable. Get it wrong and it’s just another pea blossom.
03

The cascading stem

Six to ten blooms on a single curving stem, alternating sides. The taping sequence, the gauge selection, and the gentle arc that makes a finished sprig fall the way a real one would.
04

Soft palettes & gradients

Sweet peas are almost always soft: blush, peach, lavender, butter yellow, ivory. The dusting technique for these pale palettes without losing dimension, plus the deeper-edged “smouldering” variation.
05

Arrangement as cascade

Sweet peas almost never sit upright on a cake. They cascade, drape, fall. The placement technique for using them as the motion-element that gives every other flower somewhere to go.
Why Sweet Peas

The flower that turns every cake into a photograph.

Most flowers on a wedding cake hold still. They sit. They look beautiful in their place. Sweet peas do something else. They move. A real sweet pea cascade tumbles off the side of a cake like the flower is still alive and reaching for light. Cake photographers know this. Wedding magazine editors know this. The reason editorial cake images so often feature sweet peas is the motion. Static cakes don’t photograph as well.
The technical reason is that sweet peas combine multiple bloom stages on a single stem. Buds, half-open blossoms, and full flowers, all reading as different moments in time. That progression is what creates the sense of motion. Master the three stages and you’ve added a kind of storytelling to your flower work that most cake artists never reach.
“I very much enjoyed the class! It was so fun and I learned a lot.” · Tricia Clarke · Academy student
And the eight five-star reviews on this course aren’t accidental. Sweet peas have a steeper learning curve than most filler flowers, and a higher payoff. Students who finish it consistently say it changed how they see arrangement.
