Gumpaste Ranunculus Tutorial

Hey there fellow cake friends and welcome to this Gumpaste Ranunculus Tutorial!

Are you intimidated by making the ranunculus flower?

Maybe the tutorials you looked at used way too many specialized veiners, cutters and tools?

Or perhaps you gave it a try but it took you hours to create?

I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to be intimidated, spend a fortune, or hours upon hours to create this beautifully layered flower.

I have a process to quickly create your first few layers of inner petals then you can focus your energy on the outer ones that will be seen. Finally, I’ll show you how to dust your gumpaste ranunculus to bring it to life.

So, without further delay, watch the tutorial below!

Tips for Success

Use the Right Gumpaste

I highly recommend using a homemade gumpaste recipe for this Gumpaste Ranunculus Tutorial.

If you use a gumpaste that doesn’t have enough structure, you could be left with floppy petals, or wasting too much time waiting for one layer to dry before you can apply the next.

Avoid this and download my Best Gumpaste Recipe HERE!

Be Patient

When you are waiting for any of your outer petals to par-dry, be patient!

If you remove them too soon (before they can hold their shape) they could collapse and you’ll be trying to add flat or shapeless petals onto your nice rounded gumpaste ranunculus.

Avoid this by waiting until your petals easily hold their shape when removed from the mold before adding glue and applying them to your flower.

Rolling Your Gumpaste Thin

I’ve said it so many times before, but for the people in the back, roll your gumpaste thin!

This is integral to achieving those realistic flowers, especially in something like a gumpaste ranunculus where the petals of the real flower are incredibly delicate.

Avoid thick petals by using a pasta machine, whether it’s my favourite Kitchen Aid Attatchment, or a manual one.
